How We Prayed For Our Nation & New President - by Greg Ross

praying hands

On January 24th, 2021 our Elders asked Greg Ross, a godly older man in our church, to pray for our new President (Joe Biden) and for our nation.

Greg's prayer was a model of humility, dependence, and heartfelt honesty in light of challenging times in our nation. Below is the transcript from Greg's prayer.

----------------------

Good morning,

I’ve been asked to pray for our president, and our nation. But I would like to read some Scripture just before I do, that I think is a Scripture that we all need to constantly remind ourselves of, especially in the times that we're in right now…it's from Romans 13:1-2:

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.”

So, I think a lot of us have maybe struggled with the Presidential election, the outcome; maybe there's many here that haven’t; but there may be many that have, and it's been a difficult thing to understand in some ways. But we have to always remember and be thankful to our Lord for He is in control (Psalm 115:3), and I would like to pray about that.

Our precious Lord and Savior – here we are again, another time, at Your throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16)…praising  Your name, Lord; thanking  You for who  You are; thanking  You for  Your love and  Your grace.

Father we've done nothing to deserve Your grace, Your love, Your care; You choose to bless whom You choose. And Father, this church has been blessed…in so many different ways. And we're so very thankful.

Father, we want to lift up our President to You, and we know according to Your Word, You put people in authority (Daniel 2:21), and so Father we would pray for Thy will to be done (Matthew 6:10) through this man Joe Biden. That Your will would come through; that there would be intervention on Your behalf. We pray for this man as he gives direction to our country and often to the world. So, we thank You for Your blessings. We thank You, Father, that we know that You are in control. We need to remember…[and] not lose Sight of the big picture. It’s so easy for us to focus in on what's right in front of us and what seems difficult with all the things that are going on in our world in our country. But there's a big picture. You are in control of the big picture. When this picture is all done and has been totally created and painted by You, it's going to be a beautiful picture. Lord, we need to keep that focus in our mind; that You are in control of all things.

So, Father, we also pray for a peace and a healing in our nation. Our nation has been going through so many different things with a pandemic, with tensions between ethnic groups, fights over politics…it's made it difficult to not focus on them. They're so big, but Lord – You're bigger! You're a big God and we need to always remember and be thankful that You are in control at all times. And we're to give thanks in all things.

We just praise Your holy, precious name Lord. And we thank You for the blessings that You've bestowed on this country, and we ask all this in Your holy Precious name, Amen.
