Today I want to take just a few minutes to talk about something simple,
but powerful — serving. Not just filling a role, not just covering a need,
but offering ourselves to God in a way that lets His grace flow through
us.

In 2 Corinthians 8:1-5
8:1 And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace
that God has given the Macedonian churches.  2  In the midst of a very
severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up
in rich generosity.  3  For I testify that they gave as much as they were
able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,  4  they
urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to
the Lord’s people.  5  And they exceeded our expectations: They gave
themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us

Paul describes a group of believers who were going through hardship,
yet he says something remarkable about them. He says they gave
“beyond their ability,” and then he adds this key phrase: “They gave
themselves first to the Lord.” That’s the heart of serving. Before they
offered their time or their resources, they offered themselves.

Serving doesn’t start with a schedule. It starts with a willing heart.

Paul goes on to say in chapter 9 that God is able to make all grace
abound so that we have everything we need for every good work. In
other words, God never calls us to serve from our own strength. He
supplies the grace. We supply the willingness.

And that connects beautifully with Ephesians 4, where Paul says that
Christ has given gifts to every believer — not just a few, not just the
outgoing, not just the experienced — every believer. And then he says
the church grows and becomes strong “as each part does its work.”

Think about that. The strength, the unity, the maturity of the whole
church is tied to each person doing their part. Not perfectly. Not
impressively. Just faithfully.

Sometimes we underestimate what God can do through small acts of
service. Greeting someone at the door. Helping with kids. Running
slides. Praying with someone who looks discouraged. These may feel
small to us, but in God’s hands, they become seeds — and He is the
One who multiplies them.

So here’s the encouragement today: You don’t have to be the most
talented. You don’t have to have the most time. You just need a
willing heart. God supplies the grace. You simply say, “Lord, here I am.”

And when a church family begins to serve with that kind of heart —
willingly, joyfully, together — something beautiful happens. The body
builds itself up. People grow. Needs are met. And the love of Christ
becomes visible in ways that words alone can’t express.

So today, I want to invite you to take one simple step: Ask the Lord,
“Where can I serve? Where can I offer myself to You?” Not out of
pressure. Not out of guilt. But out of a desire to let His grace overflow
through you.

Because when we give ourselves to the Lord, He does far more through
us than we ever imagined.
Amen.
